Typographic Portrait

For this project, I found an image of myself appropriate and not to difficult to re-illustrate using only text. This wasn’t a difficult process with the help of facebook. For a lot of the image I used lyrics from some of my favorite songs. I’m trying to look as if I am having fun by picking a picture with a smile. I used thin lines to outline my face so they are the least noticeable. I used extremely large fonts for my eyes and eyebrows because they are the most noticeable, and thus I wanted them to be a focal point on my face. I used letters to shape me ear instead of doing an outline to make it a bit different. I placed the picture in the top half of my work space because of the beak on my hat; it is cut off at the top. I believe that I used my space fairly well, and my message was clear with the final product.

Everyday Object Study

Everyday Object Project
Illustrations By: Johnathon Mckay

In drawing my images on Adobe Illustrator I went through a few steps on my way to a final product. At first I was to draw an everyday object from different views for an understanding of the objects lines. I took my hand drawn image and then tried to recreate it on the illustrator. I completed the task but it did not end up as I had wanted it to. On the second step I was to trace from a scan or a photograph. Because I did not like my hand drawing I decided to use a photograph. This improved my image quality. I used different layers to create a sketch. I used many different tools and brush strokes to recreate my original drawing, in different ways. This gave me a great understanding of illustrator. It was great.
